Next Yoko Taro game will be released in 2027 as Automata 10th Anniversary - here is why.
Back in 2013, when Drakengard was celebrating its 10th anniversary, we got not only Drakengard 3, but a very special bundle as well. As a reminder, Drakengard 2 isn't a Yoko Taro game, which means he came back to this franchise after quite a long time. Drakengard was a game that gave Yoko Taro his name back in a day, which is quite clear why he wanted to celebrate its 10 years.
Drakengard 3 was a prequel that expanded DrakeNieR lore as nothing earlier, introducing stuff relevant in discussions to this day. While the special bundle included Drag-on Dragoon: World Inside - book with exclusive lore provided for Drakengard, Drakengard 2 and NieR RepliCant. That 10th anniversary was something truly special if you ask me.
After NieR:Automata success, we've been blessed with NieR Replicant ver.1.22... in 2021. Part of its marketing (especially in merchandise) was NieR 10+1 Years, which again is a celebratory thing for the 10th anniversary of a game that made him an even more recognizable director.
But nothing was as big of a success as Automata. Groundbreaking sales that brought him insane popularity, collabs and even anime (did you know SINoALICE has its own movie?) This way I think we can all agree that Automata will get something very special on its 10th anniversary. Something that won't be just a remake as for Replicant, something possibly bigger than what Drakengard received.
In May this year, we got the very early announcement of a new project. The Game Awards are just around the corner. Additionally, there is a special event at the end of the month - NieR Dinner Show, in which there is a big chance for more details.
NieR:Automata was 1st announced at E3 2015, 2 years ahead of its release in 2017. There is still some time left until 2027, but I think Yoko Taro and his crew are surely cooking something. Especially because this year closed a lot of projects for Yoko Taro. SINoALICE is over, Re[in]carnation and 404 Game Re:Set as well. NieR anime ended, his other anime project KamiErabi God.app also reaching its end. Added to that, there were multiple orchestra concerts around the world. That means he will have his hands free for a brand new project, right?
